Imagine spending a week on the best island in Europe, learning landscape photography and fine art printing from the lap of luxury.
I’m excited to offer a unique and exclusive photographic experience, including luxury accommodation, quality catering and personal camera to print tuition, for just three photographers at a time, on my favourite Scottish Isle, The Isle of Harris. Here, at the edge of the North Atlantic, you can learn a new skill or hone your craft in some truly spectacular surroundings.
Harris is a hidden jewel; located at the furthermost tip of the UK, with wild, deserted beaches, majestic hills and turquoise seas. So wild, so remote it’s hard to believe that it’s only an hours flight from Edinburgh and Glasgow. You will be enchanted on the isle which is ranked number one in Europe and fifth in the world by Trip Advisor
You’ll stay in a magnificent stone-built house overlooking Scarista beach, my favourite in the world. Òran na Mara (Gallic for ‘Song of the Sea’) has been designed to integrate with the landscape and built using traditional materials and techniques. Inside, you’ll find a luxurious, contemporary space with the most perfect artwork: a floor to ceiling view of the North Atlantic crashing onto Scarista beach.

Over the course of the week we will immerse ourselves in photography, in the field and at the computer, explore world class beaches, visit the mysterious stone circle at Callanish and hunt for the Aurora Borealis and the Milky Way at night. I'll also take you to meet the man that weaves Harris tweed for Chanel and Nike in his shed and, of course, a visit to Scotland's newest Whisky Distillery. This is not a workshop, it’s a holiday. You will be refreshed and relaxed, but exhilarated.

You will be driven by Land Rover Discovery HSE in luxurious comfort between all shoots, dawn, dusk and night. You will be tutored in the field then at the computer to bring your masterpiece to life in Adobe Lightroom. Towards the end of the week you will learn how to make mounted, fine art prints of your favourite photographs. A perfect memento of your time on Harris.

You don't need any camera skills at all to sign up. This holiday is perfect for anyone wanting to learn a new skill or polish a current one, and spend quality time in a beautiful, unpredictable and dynamic environment. If you don't have your own camera equipment I can provide everything that you'll need for the week.

Northern Lights, Isle of HarrisNorthern Lights, Isle of HarrisThe Northern Lights are a rare sight in the UK so I was amazed to see them on a trip to Harris in April 2012. It was by chance that I managed to capture them too. The evening before I had been photographing the night sky when I noticed a green smudge at the bottom of my frame. Fearing the worst and thinking my sensor was fried I went to bed but the next day I realised that the 'smudge' was in the north and could be the Aurora Borealis. And so I set up ready the next evening, with a flask of tea and a smaller flask of the local tipple. I couldn't believe my luck when, at around midnight I witnessed a short but powerful show.
